Life Cycles Explanation Texts Reading Comprehension Pages

Looking for a set of sample texts to introduce explanations? Then this is just what you need. Life cycles are the perfect concrete example to explain a process in stages.

This is a set of life cycle reading comprehension pages. Each life cycle includes individual text pages that can be used as model texts for understanding explanatory writing and chronological order. With my class I always like to introduce them to text types by looking at a sample text and using it to examine the features such as:

• -  subheadings
• -  captions
• -  glossaries
• -  use of time words/ sequencing language
• -  the present tense
  The first text about the life cycle of an oak tree is the easiest both in language and question types. The comprehension is included in two different formats for only this text as it is a great introductory resource.
  The remaining comprehensions are at a very similar level increasing with minimal difficulty and with an additional page of grammar questions.
