Description

Letter Sounds PowerPoint for phonics programs. Beginning consonant sounds and vowel sounds - long and short. This can be projected on a whiteboard (easy to use in a virtual classroom online) or you can print these out on index cards and laminate. Beyond just letter recognition of the alphabet, saying consonant sounds is the first step in learning to read and the first evidence of phonemic awareness. For interactive fun, play the slides in Slideshow or Present mode. Student can then read along with you and guess the consonant sounds of the pictures. If they are right, they move on to the next letter. If they are incorrect, they go back. For vowel sounds, they must tell if the picture starts with the long or short sound. Help them name the picture if they don’t know what it is.

Carefully go through each letter, and assess how well each student knows the consonant sounds. Explain to them that if they have difficulty remembering any of the consonant sounds, they should remember the key word pictured with each letter. The key word for b, for example, is bus. Avoid as much as possible adding the uh sound after the consonant sounds, so that students will have less difficulty blending words when they start putting letters together. Useful for Letter of the Week activities. You can project this PowerPoint on a Smartboard, Whiteboard, or use in online teaching, or print out the slides on cardstock for flashcards and laminate for use in centers.

Includes sound cards for all the consonants, and sound cards for the vowels a, e, i, o and u. Editable for your classroom use. Includes teacher directions.
Did you know that you can use PowerPoints like this in video conferencing or Zoom for distance learning? You can also share with your students in OneDrive, too. Just make sure to tell them to view in Slideshow mode. If you don’t want them to have the answer key, remove it first. ;) You can also upload to Google Slides, and it will automatically convert. There may be some things like fonts or animations that are not compatible, but it is editable and usually easy to make adjustments.

This is included in my Phonics PowerPoint Bundle.
