Description

This worksheet packet specifically explores the groundbreaking modern pioneer Merce Cunningham. This pivotal figure changed the face of American Modern dance and became an influential leader in the American avant-garde movement. His 70 year career is considered one of the most important choreographers of our time.

Perfect for dance and humanities students alike. It is a deeper look at the history of modern dance than the routine evaluation of historical figures in the art.

This is part of a series of worksheet packets that I created for dance history and musical theater classes. I have dozens of figures from jazz, tap, ballet, modern, and musical theater. I developed these packets as a teaching tool for my students as there was no high school dance history textbook acceptable for our program.

These are written at the high school level, appropriate for most students in reading and comprehension. They are perfect for the Common Core Close Reading requirements. The packets are sourced and standard notated. They include questions. They work well as individuals work, and small group works. We class correct andthen use the key questions for future reference.

I follow up these packets with video clips of the particular artists and reflection questions. It helps the students connect the figure with the style of choreography.

Perfect for introducing a pioneer in each genre and appropriate to leave for subs and group work. Packets include grading keys.
