Description

Too often we throw students into a task without realizing they may need additional guidance or scaffolding to complete the task effectively. "Write a story," we tell them. But how should it start? What makes it interesting? How should it end? This 38-slide PowerPoint slide show gives a detailed overview of the concept of plot. Ideal for use with a unit or lesson on story-writing, narrative (fiction or non-fiction), or short stories. It was originally designed for a high school or middle school classroom, but could be easily simplified for an elementary school class. The slide show centers around the concept of Freitag's triangle, explains what plot is, what the basic stages are, and contains an example of a well-known plot broken down into these stages. The slide show, associated discussion, and culminating activity should take one, 40-50 minute class period.
