Leap Year Escape Room ELA Reading Informational Text Grades 3 -4 - 5
- PDF
Description
Your students are going to love learning the history, science, and math about Leap Year and February 29th with this engaging escape room, Who Hacked Leap Year? After watching the video hook, they'll be ready for close reading the informational text to find all the clues and decode the final mystery phrase.
The Escape Room Premise:
- ► February 29th has disappeared from all the calendars! How did this happen? Students will:
- ► Read the text
- ► Answer the questions
- ► Use the codes in the answers
- ► Discover what caused this devastating event by revealing the mystery phrase
- ► Use a color by code to put February 29th back on the calendar!
Students begin with a leveled reading comprehension passage and 16 questions. The Who Hacked Leap Year Escape Room will have your students learning the math and science behind why we have leap years.
The reading passage, Who Hacked Leap Year? is an original story written by a teacher (me) about a glitch that caused leap day to disappear from all calendars. It's at a reading level for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
Level up the learning and reading engagement of your students with this Who Hacked Leap Year Escape Room. They won't even realize they're learning! This is a no-prep printable PDF.
- Are you hoping it's a NO-PREP resource? Just print the student pages, cut four decoders, share the video hook, and you're set!
- Are you hoping it's rigorous and meets standards in reading? It meets reading standards for informational texts listed below and inside the resource. The reading includes specific vocabulary. Students must refer back to the details in the text to answer the questions. It also includes an extra activity for writing if you want to extend the learning. Your students will be looking back in the text and rereading to find the answers they need to conquer the challenges.
- Are you wondering if you can pull off an escape room in your class? No worries! I've included lesson plan instructions and a three page teacher guide. There's no envelopes, no hiding things around the room, and no extra work for you. It's as easy as printing out the student pages and letting them work on the challenges.
This practically NO-PREP resource is in printable PDF format. All your students need are pencils, and some crayons or colored pencils.
