What educators are saying
My students were totally engaged in this activity. I could hear teams talking about their solutions and if they didn't agree, they discussed it until they reached a consensus. It was used to review Law of Sines and Cosines and allowed them to pick which law to use for each application.
My students loved this work as an alternative to a paper worksheet to review the law of sines and law of cosines. They were more engaged and excited to work.

This activity is ideal for end-of-the-unit or end-of-the-year exam review for the LAW OF SINES and LAW OF COSINES unit. It will get your students out of their seats and working cooperatively in small groups. They will use their knowledge of law of sines and law of cosines in order to solve problems. Every correct answer helps eliminate suspects, locations, or mathematical “weapons”– just like the popular board game.
Topics include:
*Law of Sines
*Law of Cosines
*Real-world applications of the above topics
This is one of my favorite activities to do as a review and as a way to deepen students’ understanding of concepts that they learned in a unit. This activity is one that the students actually enjoy. If I put the same questions on a worksheet, I might hear groaning. Instead, they see this as a game, and they work hard to solve the mystery.
All you have to do is post the questions around the room, assign students to groups, and give them their answer sheets. The next thing you know, you have a classroom full of actively engaged students who are working together to solve problems. Sound too good to be true? Try it, and you will become a believer, too!
