Description

This unit has been crafted for students of an early Latin 1 level. The structures and vocabulary are quite introductory. I use this unit as an introduction to reading, comprehension, and early sentence building. This unit is not focused heavily on grammar. It incorporates nouns of the first three declensions, but only focuses on the endings for some of the first and second declension nouns. Other nouns are learned or understood through context.
This unit contains many products. It can be instructed in any order that you wish. The locations included on the map are based upon what I consider to be important for the years of the National Latin Exam. In addition, I also feel that these are the most common places that are mentioned for Certamen and also in the texts which we read through our curriculum. The Latn-Modern English counterparts have been named primarily based on how the NLE expresses them or by the most common location today.
This unit includes:
• two readings based on geography with supplemental vocabulary
• questions based on the text which the student will use to practice responding in Latin
• a formal vocabulary list
• a blank formal vocabulary list for an assessment
• a map labeling activity
• a blank map labeling activity for an assessment or review
• map summarizer activity that can be used as a class closure or review
• a Latin - English translation activity
• 2 introductory activities to prepositional phrases
• a reading comprehension and map labeling activity
• a blank writing prompt based upon geography, vocabulary, and prepositional phrases
• an introduction to Latin weather terms and translations
• a reading comprehension activity based on geography and weather
• a speaking activity based on geography, weather, and prepositions
• a writing activity based on geography, weather, and prepositions
• A comprehensive unit assessment that includes map labeling, National Latin Exam style multiple choice questions, Latin-English translation, English-Latin Translation, writing activity
