This Language in Psychology Activity Bundle Includes:
1) An assignment that focuses on the main aspects to language development. The first part of this assignment asks students to define the key concepts such as: Language, Phonemes, Morphemes, Grammar, the Bilingual Advantage, Linguistic Determinism, and sign language. The second portion of the assignment asks your students read an academic article comparing Noam Chomsky's theory of language development to BF Skinner's theory. This gives them an opportunity to read a scholarly article about two titans of psychological thought.
2) An assignment about cognitive mapping. This is a quick assignment that asks your students to draw a map of their school. They are given no references and must do it all from memory. This gives your students an example of how your mind automatically creates maps in their mind. This relates to thinking in images instead of language because all of this information has been programed into the mind without thinking about spoken directions, rather just through visualization while navigating campus. This activity can lead to a great discussion in your class about the topic.
