Looking for a fun and engaging way to teach landforms and bodies of water? Teach geography with this resource covering the definitions of 20 physical features of the Earth. Includes an interactive printable, 20 color posters, and a 12-page Mini-Book to reinforce the learning of the landforms and bodies of water.

Try out the suggested salt and flour landforms and bodies of water projects (instructions included)! The unit covers 14 landforms and 6 bodies of water. Add these resources to your existing lessons or to complement your unit.

PowerPoint with Printable

  • Start with this animated PowerPoint to introduce the landforms and bodies of water.
  • Each landform or body of water has 2 slides; One to access prior knowledge and frontload vocabulary, and another to give a formal definition. There’s also a question and answer related to the landform and body of water.
  • Finally, an animated avatar presents an interesting fact. As you show the slides, the students follow along on the Student Sheet trying to match illustrations of the landforms and bodies of water to the slide. They also add keywords.
  • Many great sounds have been added (can be turned off by just lowering the volume).

Posters and Vocabulary Cards

  • The slides have been reformatted to make 20 portrait posters of each of the landforms and bodies of water. They are in color.
  • Print once, laminate, and use for years.
  • The posters have also been formatted to make quarter-size vocabulary cards for small groups or games.

Mini-Book

  • A black and white student Mini-Book is also included in which the student identifies each landform and body of water.
  • Then adds keywords and a definition, essentially making an illustrated glossary. It can also be used to assess or as homework.

Salt and Flour Project

  • There are instructions for making the salt and flour dough.
  • Students just need a shoebox top or piece of sturdy cardboard, salt and flour dough, and some paint.
