What educators are saying

I did this lab over 2 class periods. Students were very engaged. I especially liked that students were asked to write their own procedure.
I used this resource with my AP Chemistry students during AP Bootcamp to review dilutions and to introduce the spectrophotometer. Very easy to use and fun!

To do this activity successfully, your students will need to have prerequisite knowledge of preforming calculations with both the molarity and the dilution equations. Setup and implementation is easy with my teacher prep guide - see the product preview for details.

Learning objectives: Your students will be able to…

  • Develop a procedure for making a stock solution
  • Use the stock solution to perform a dilution
  • Determine the concentration of an unknown by colorimetric analysis

Materials your students will need:

  • 100 mL volumetric flask
  • Plastic flask cap
  • Cork stopper
  • Beaker
  • Parafilm
  • 10.00 mL graduated cylinder
  • Disposable pipettes
