Description

Are you inspired to teach your students about the true meaning of the holiday season- the importance of kindness and service towards others?

I created the unit because the group of students I have this year really need explicit examples of kindness in action. I wanted to create meaningful and authentic lessons so my students could experience the benefits from small and simple acts of kindness. I was absolutely amazed with how excited my group of students were to perform these acts of kindness!

1. Kickoff for Kindness Unit – 6 pages

A unique way to kickoff your unit and also conclude your unit, with a little bit of PARENT homework!

2. Cooperative Group Kindness Skits – 15 pages

Are your students ready to perform acts of kindness skits for another class? Give another teacher a break an invite their students into your classroom and be audience members as your students SHINE in performing their kindness skits! Students work in cooperative groups to act out one of the scenarios presented to them- a great way to incorporate character education and common core! (Speaking and Listening Standards)

3. Pay it Forward and Spread Some Good Cheer - 16 pages

Ideas and printables are shared for how students can provide an act of kindness in their community and also their school. One example is creating a kindness crew! The kindness crew visits classrooms at the end of the day and lends a hand to clean up, providing an act of kindness for the night custodians.

4. Radom Acts of Kindness - Secret Student Santas! – 14 pagesWhen let the adults have all the fun with playing Secret Santa this season? Let your students turn into secret Santas and perform acts of kindness for their peers...all in secrecy!!!! Students learn about positive character traits and end this lesson with a cute and creative art project.

5. Staff Member Surprise- 49 pages

What is the reason for the season? Showing appreciation for all the hard working staff members in our school! In this file, students shower the staff members in their school with letters of appreciation. File includes cover pages for different staff members in a school setting, both in color and black and white. There are also several templates for students to write their letter of appreciation. Your students will LOOOVE delivering these sweet messages of appreciation and your co-workers will LOOOVE receiving them! :)

6. Kindness Cart- 11 pages

A creative and fun way for your students to show their appreciation for staff members! Students turn into student servers and surprise staff members by delivering coffee and cookies on a cart!

The ideas presented in this unit are perfect for the month of December, where students are encouraged to participate in acts of kindness in their community, school, and classroom.
