What educators are saying

I am using this resource with some students who need a little help understanding why it is important to be kind to others. Great resource!
This did an amazing job helping my students be kind to each other! We needed a reset and this was exactly what we were looking for.

Description

****UPDATED to include a Google Slides™ version as well as a Microsoft version for OneDrive™.

Social-Emotional Learning is more important than ever and having quality lesson plans and activities makes it so much easier to build into your curriculum. These units were developed to support YOU in teaching, modeling and reinforcing great character. This resource focuses on KINDNESS and is part of a year-long social-emotional curriculum. This resource can be used as a stand-alone resource or in conjunction with the other units.

In this packet, you will find 4 detailed lesson plans as well as printable and digital activities. Each lesson plan comes with specific teacher language so they are ideal for families, sub plans or teachers who would like who are more comfortable with this. These lessons were created for whole group but could absolutely be used in a small group or homeschool setting. Instead of class discussions, you would just have a discussion with the child. They could easily be adapted for a class meeting over a digital platform, as well.

Lesson 1- What Is Kindness?

Your students will watch a short video about kindness and then discuss it as a class and create an anchor chart to remember what it means to be kind! Then students will complete a digital or printable writing page.

Lesson 2-How Does Kindness Look?

Your students will review kindness and then talk about how kindness LOOKS (what things we DO to be kind). Then you'll introduce a Kindness Catcher and notes for students to use to "catch" their friends being kind!

Lesson 3-How Does Kindness Sound?

Your class will read Kind and Unkind Words, sort them, and discuss it! A digital sort is also available. Then they'll create a cute craft with a self-portrait and examples of kind words they might say to their peers.

Lesson 4-How Does Kindness Spread?

You will read a fabulous read-aloud with your class (or watch the video) about kindness changing the world. Then your students will brainstorm some ways they will create a craft titled "I Can Change the World With My Own Two Hands" I've also included a writing page with the same title.

Lesson 5-What are Boundaries?

As we teach our students about kindness, it's important to balance it with conversations around boundaries and advocacy. I created this lesson to provide you with some language around boundaries and how to introduce it to students. You'll find two visuals to aid in the discussion as well as a digital and printable writing page.

This resource also includes:

-An original poem (digital and printable version)

-One Act of Kindness digital and printable writing page

-Dear Friend digital and printable writing page

-Kindness Goal setting digital and printable page

-Kindness poem (digital and printable version for students to complete their own poem)

-Kindness flipbook

-A Parent letter for you to share with parents. You'll find this in the printable version, but I've also included a separate PDF. You can upload this to whatever platform you use to communicate with parents.

I truly hope this unit makes it much easier for you to build character education into your day!
