Kindergarten and First Grade Music Rhythm Centers Bundle

Looking for some minimal prep, easy to explain, and fun rhythm centers for your kindergarten and 1st grade music classes? This bundle includes 5 centers:

Rhythm Board Game

• 2-4 players
• Roll a dice (template included) or use a spinner (template included) to see how far you move along the game board.
• Tally your points based on which space you land on. Quarter note=1 point, eighth notes=2 points, rest=3 points.
• When everyone reaches the end, player with the most points wins
• 2 versions included: short version (for Kindergarten) and longer version (for 1st grade)

Sensory Bin Rhythm Hunt and Composition

• 2 separate activities:

Rhythm Hunt/Match

• Cut out and place the 4-beat rhythm strips into bin.
• Students dig through bin and find each card.
• Match the card with the rhythm on your paper and write the "secret symbol"

Rhythm Composition

• Cut out and place individual note cards into bin (quarter note, paired eighth notes, and quarter rest)
• Students dig through bin and select a card.
• Write down your note or rest in the first available box on your paper.
• Continue until you fill all 12 boxes.
• Clap or say your finished rhythm!

Find the Odd One Out

• 5 different sheets
• Students look at various 4-beat rhythms and decide which one does not match the others
• Put in dry erase sleeve and let them use dry erase markers to save paper!
• Print each sheet on different colored paper so students can keep track of which one they have already tried

Play Dough Rhythm Mats

• Single note templates for quarter note, paired eighth notes, and quarter rest
• 10 four-beat rhythms using those three note combinations
• Laminate before use! Or put in page protector

Caterpillar Rhythms

• Print, laminate, and cut out rhythm cards (ta/titi/rest) and caterpillar heads
• Students make caterpillars with cards and write rhythms onto their sheet
• They have to practice writing rhythms of various lengths based on how long the caterpillar on their sheet is

I use all 5 of these stations at once, but you could do each activity on its own as well. Students seem to be able to grasp how to do each station pretty quickly, so these are a good first set of stations if you've never done them before!
