This Kindergarten Science Bundle addresses the standards for Push and Pull.

If you want to engage your students in a week long Kindergarten push and pull experience that has them asking and answering questions, making predictions, thinking about pushes and pulls, using vocabulary accurately, making observations, recording data, making claims and providing evidence for those claims, then this is the unit for you!

It all begins with a simple marble and ramp experiment that builds to the next experiment with a ramp and balls of varying weights trying to knock an object over. The next day students get to use marshmallow launchers to examine how different strength pushes and pulls can impact the speed of an object and how far it travels. All of their learning culminates with building their own miniature golf courses and watching pushes and pulls in action as they play a round of golf in their hole and observe different strength pushes and pulls. They will "play" with changing the speed and direction of their ball as well as narrow their focus to when they need to push and when they need to pull to be successful.

Students will be engaged throughout the entire week of push and pull experiments. If your students are like mine, they will ask to repeat lessons each day. You will be amazed by the caliber of questions they pose and the quality of their data collection and written responses. The unit demands a lot of them, but it provides ample support along the way to ensure they are successful in meeting those high expectations.

Push and Pull Decodable Reader

The decodable reader is meant to be used in your small reading group throughout the duration of the unit. It supports both Science of Reading based instruction and science learning during your pushes and pulls unit. It includes the reader (in black and white AND in color), a comprehension question page with an answer key, and written response pages.

Push and Pull Marble Madness

This is the first lesson in the unit. It is an introduction to pushes and pulls. Students have an opportunity to see how changing the height of a ramp changes the speed of a marble rolling down that ramp. It includes lesson plans, 2 recording page options and a Scientist's Log for writing a claim and evidence to support that claim based on the experiment.

Push and Pull- Ramp Champ

This is the second lesson in the unit. Students will experiment with ramps of different heights and balls of different weights. They will enjoy making predictions and comparing the results to their predictions along the way. It includes lesson plans, 2 recording sheets, and a Scientist's Log for writing a claim and evidence to support that claim based on the experiment.

Push and Pull Marshmallow Launchers

This is the second lesson in the unit. Students will launch marshmallows using a launcher that uses a pull by the student to apply a push to the marshmallow. Students will experiment with different strength/size pulls to determine the impact on the push to the marshmallow and see how that changes the distance/speed of the marshmallow. It includes lessons plans, 2 options for recording sheets (one for measurement with Unifix cubes and one for measurement with student feet), and a Scientist's Log for writing a claim and evidence to support that claim based on the experiment.

Push and Pull Mini Golf Course

This is the culminating experience. Students have the opportunity to put everything together as they build their own miniature golf hole and then golf in it. They observe and record the pushes and pulls and watch for changes in speed and direction and monitor their actions to see how they affected these changes. It includes lesson plans, 3 recording sheets, and a Scientist's Log for writing a claim and evidence to support that claim based on the experiment.
