Kindergarten Math Centers – Numbers 1-10 – Counting Centers – Number Sense

Getting started with kindergarten math centers is simple with these counting centers for the numbers 1-10! This set of 11 counting activities helps students build number sense and master counting and cardinality standards with hands-on practice targeting counting, number identification and formation, greater/less concepts, and representing numbers in a variety of ways. Using math manipulatives that you have on hand and these printable math center cards and recording sheets, your students will be set up with eleven different ways to improve their number sense! (All of these kindergarten math centers include the numbers 1-10. Some, but not all, also include zero. The domino activities include numbers up to 12.)

These Kindergarten Math Centers Include:

This set includes eleven printable kindergarten math centers. Each center includes:

✔ Teacher Directions (with differentiation ideas)
✔ Student Directions Card (with pictures and “I can” statements)
✔ Illustrated Label (for organization)
✔ Recording Sheets (for accountability, follow-up, assessment, or enrichment)
✔ Printable Task Cards and/or Game Pieces (in color and black and white)

The centers included in this set all include the numbers 1-10 (some, but not all, include zero, as well)). They are designed to build number sense and give children practice with counting, forming, identifying, and comparing numbers. Please see the table of contents below for all the resources.

11 Kindergarten Math Counting Centers:

▶ Roll & Cover (mats for one or two dice)
With a partner or individually, students roll one or two six-sided dice and cover the corresponding spot on their mat with a gem, pirate coin, or other counter.

▶ Domino Match (printable dominoes included)
With a partner or individually, students use a set of double six dominoes (or the included printable dominoes) to match dominoes with pictures on a mat. Choose to have students match dominoes to dot mats or numeral mats.

▶ Domino Sorting
Individually or in a small group, students explore number combinations by counting dots and sorting dominoes.

▶ Fill the Jar (spinner activity – spinner included)
With a partner or individually, students practice more and less concepts in this spinner game. Students add and take away counters while counting and working to fill a ten frame.

▶ Trace to the Top (spinner activity – spinner included)
Individually or in a small group, students spin a spinner to determine which numeral to trace on their printable recording sheet. Options are included to practice 1-5, 6-10, or 1-10.

▶ Missing Links
Students count math links and use a dry erase marker to find the missing number in sequences of three.

▶ Number Memory (matching card game)
With a partner or individually, students play a memory matching game to build understanding of various representations of the numbers 1-10 by counting ten frames, dots, dominoes, and tally marks and matching them to numerals.

▶ Dot & Count (Q-Tip painting and BINGO dauber sheets)
Following a simple color key, students usecotton swabs and paint OR bingo daubers to mark circles in a picture. Students then count and write a numeral to match the quantity for each color.

▶ Taller Tower (number comparison)
Students build towers with snap cubes to match two numbers 1-10 on a card. They then determine which tower is taller and use a dry erase marker to circle that numeral.

▶ Number World (counting sets)
Individually or with a small group, students use connecting cubes to build towers in this play-based activity targeting the numbers 1-10.

▶ Numbers Geoboards
Students use rubber bands on geoboards to make numerals. Students can work to match a numeral model or can count the dots on a ten frame card and make the numeral to match.

How to Use These Counting Centers:

To get these kindergarten math centers up and running you will need to gather a few basic supplies (listed below), do some printing and laminating, and spend a little time teaching your students how to engage with the activities.

These counting centers are flexible and should work with however you operate your math station time. Some of the activities have partner-play options (but all can also be used by individual students). If you teach math in a small-group format, you may wish to introduce these math centers in your groups.
