Look NO more! My students used these mats all last year and made many gains with mental math, foundational numbers and developed a LOVE for learning through creative number & hands-on play. This activity set is focused on 100% student-centered learning that builds over the course of the school year. It’s also a resource that keep YOU, the busy teacher reaching ALL the learners, in mind with its simplistic and NO-PREP approach. Put your scissors away and get that colored paper READY to roll.

About the Mats:

In this save your ink resource, NO PREP set, you'll are getting 80+ different mats (for one entire season) that focus on varied skills taught in kindergarten and reviewed in first grade to be used in December, January and February. These will be the same skills you see throughout all the seasonal packs for all the sets. Each seasonal pack includes many graphics that have some associations to the month and each seasonal pack ups the skill level to keep the students on their toes. By the end of the year, the rigor is high and students are well equipped for the challenge of the mats and larger numbers.

Skills Included in the Winter No-Prep Set:
- 14 Flashcard Fluency: can support numbers within 20 w/ +/-
- 16 Representing Numbers Mats: Teen Number Focus but Can support up to 25
- 8 Ordering Numbers Mats: focus on Numbers within 20
- 11 Comparing Number Mats: Can support numbers to 25
- 22 Addition/Composing Mats: Sums within 10 and 20
- 18 Subtraction/Decomposing: Differences within 10 and now within 20
- 6 Data Mats: Tallies and Graphs (addition comes into recording)

*Note: There are many styles of mats included to provide you options that will engage and reach all your learners. With this, I’ve included differentiated recording sheets to match each style of mat. (These are the same skills you’ll see in the other seasons but the rigor will increase to support growth while the mat format remains consistent for developmental growth)

To introduce a math new skill in the classroom: I would often use a set of mats at my small group table. In centers that week, I’d pick a similar style mat for the kids to use for practice. Since the mats grow over time, students will know what to do when they see the new themes in future centers – which also helps with center management!

Resource Background:

I am PASSIONATE about hands-on learning and the element of “play” in the classroom – especially in math. Each and every mat offers that ability depending on the manipulative of your choice. Cubes/bears always work - but, if you want to spruce it up every now and then, I’ve provided fun suggestions that kiddos will enjoy when working with the mats.

Prep:

To make these mats most effective you’ll need basic tools like: dominos, dice, flashcards, and a deck of playing cards -- Things you most likely already have in the classroom or can scoop up at the Dollar Tree. *Number spinners are included in the download. & Happy to announce: The June 2019 update includes 2 sets of jumbo # cards – per buyer request (which can be printed 4 to page if you want to cut mini cards)

Suggested use: Print on regular paper (I’m all about the colored paper) and laminate for durability or my favorite - in a clear binder pocket! To save more time: Print only one set of recording sheets for the ENTIRE season! #YESPLEASE and place in a dry-erase pocket sleeve. The idea is the sheet serves as a reflective place for recording - not a turn in worksheet for each mat. When it’s placed in a sleeve and paired with an expo, you are able to save more time and keep the recording sheet each month when the mats change. *Note: the only cut-table piece in the entire bundle is… an optional & reusable SPINNER.

There is no set way to pick a mat - it’s mix and match-able depending on your students needs and your desires!

Basics you’ll need:
- Playing Cards
- Flash Cards
- Dice
- Manipulatives (cubes will work)

My personal use:

At the start of each month, I will pick 5-6 mats to use throughout week. I pick one from each skill set (sometimes 2 or 3). My centers change every two weeks because I like the first week to be practice and the second to be mastery. If students are really loving the center, I will leave it 3 weeks and toss in a fresh set of manipulatives to keep them engaged. Generally, I end up using between 15-20 mats during the month from morning review buckets, small group teaching, and math centers.
