    In the Personal Health unit 1, students will identify daily health habits. Included in this unit are the following:

    • Students will cut, sort, and paste healthy food from unhealthy food
    • They will learn that being physical means movement of their body.
    • Students will identify physical movement and draw themselves doing a physical movement.
    • Students will identify healthy or unhealthy household activities such as playing video games vs. playing outside.
    • Students will learn the order to brush their teeth and make a goal to brush their teeth twice a day.
    • Lastly, students will read a book about Pete the Pig and learn the importance of personal hygiene.

    In the Growth and Development unit 2, students will identify daily health habits. Included in this unit are the following:

    • Students will make a book about their 5 senses.
    • They will then label their 5 senses on a body.
    • Students will also cut, sort, and paste images into the categories of each of the 5 senses.
    • Lastly, students will do a whole group activity as they compare the physical characteristics they have to their peers.

    In the Nutrition and Physical Activity unit 3, students will identify daily health habits. Included in this unit are the following:

    • Students will sort healthy and unhealthy foods and sort food by color.
    • Students will also read a story individually or as a group about a cat who is unhealthy and ways he learns to be healthy by eating the right foods and being active.
    • Lastly, students will draw healthy foods and a physical activity.

    In the Substance Use and Abuse unit 4, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this unit:

    • Students will identify household items that are safe or unsafe as they circle which objects are safe to handle in a household.
    • Students will also do a cut, sort, and paste activity on common objects in a household that are safe or unsafe to handle.
    • In another activity, students will identify and color people who are allowed to give them medication.
    • Students will also identify adults who can give kids medicine in a fun complete the word activity.
    • Lastly, students will learn about how to "just say no!" when pressured in a role-playing situation as a whole group.

    In the Injury / Violence Prevention and Safety unit 5, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this unit:

    • Students will understand that if they were lost, they would need to know the phone numbers of their parents or guardians and their address. In addition, they need to know their own name and the full name of their parents.
    • Students will learn in a cut and paste activity when to call 911 or when to not call 911.
    • When riding a bike, students will learn about bike safety and the signals to use when making right and left turns, and when to stop.
    • Students will also learn about playground safety.
    • Understanding that strangers are people who you don't know is important. In another activity, students will do a cut and paste activity to identify who could be a stranger or who is not a stranger.
    • Lastly, students will understand what it means to bully or be bullied.

    In the prevention / control of disease unit 6, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this unit:

    • Students will learn how germs make them sick and how to avoid having germs on their hands by washing them properly and by sneezing into their elbow instead of out into the air.
    • There is also a cut, sort, and paste activity about washing their hands int he proper way.
    • Students will also understand the role of doctors and dentists and how they help them to be healthy as they communicate that with a friend.
    • There is also an activity about the use of medical instruments to help kids feel more comfortable with a doctor.
    • Students will complete a wordsearch about words used with a dentist.
    • Lastly, there are worksheets explaining the coronavirus: What Covid -19 means, where scientist think it came from, what symptoms they may have if they get it, and how to keep themselves and others safe from this virus.

    In the Environmental / Consumer Health unit 7, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this unit:

    • Students will learn about sun damage and how to protect themselves from the sun's rays by using sunscreen and covering up to protect their skin.
    • Students will do an activity where they will cut and paste clothing onto a paper doll representing themselves.
    • Students will also learn about community health workers in a cut, sort, and paste activity.
    • Lastly, students will read a book about what community workers do. They can read this individually or whole group, then color the pages.

    These units meet Common Core standards.
