Description

Teaching STEM activities in Kindergarten is easy and fun with this book companion to "Mechanimals" by Chris Tougas. This engineering design experiment and STEM activities resource includes 3+ days of lessons and activities perfect for group work, writer's workshop or as center activities where students are using problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

As a large group or focused small group activity, students and teacher will build an animal robot using recycleables and other makerspace materials.  Students become "engineers" as they record in their STEAM journals the building process of this experiment. The main focus of these Kindergarten STEM activities is on engineering, but students will also be applying technology, science, the arts, and math concepts to this interactive read aloud book companion resource.

The Early Years STEAM Cycle of Read, Talk, Create, and Share, combines the joy of reading storybooks and the creativity of STEAM challenges. The STEAM cycle has been specifically designed for children in the early years -  pre-school and kindergarten age, to develop their critical thinking skills through hands-on problem-solving challenges.

Low prep and easy to implement with materials you already have in your classroom, these Kindergarten STEM activities promote critical thinking, problem-solving, perspective-taking, and collaboration. The detailed lesson plans and learning how to be a STEAM thinker activities, prep students for the STEM activities they can complete on their own or in a small group.
