What is an Interactive Calendar?

  • An interactive calendar is Calendar Time but with engagement. You are not simply telling children what day/month/year it is but incorporating them into the discovery and learning process.

  • Students will use skills like prediction, critical thinking, number talks, number sense, partner talks, and so much more. Calendar Time is not just something to add to your day "Just Because." It is a critical component for learning and understanding math concepts.
  • Students will have fun learning and develop math skills each time you gather for calendar!

March Calendar Overview:

  • Calendar: MARCH focuses on solving addition and subtraction word problems within 10. In this calendar, your students will be exposed to the basic foundation of word problems. Your students will learn the foundation of listening to word problems, identifying the type of equations, picking out the important numbers, and then solving the equation.

  • Calendar Game: This Bingo game focuses on addition and subtraction equations. Students will get exposure to both addition and subtraction questions. They will pay extra attention to the equation symbols (+ or -) and correctly solve the equations.

  • Calendar Conversations: March focuses on building a strong foundation of Addition and Subtraction. March will only focus on solving addition and subtraction word problems. However, you can focus more on drawing pictures to solve the answer rather than actual equations.

  • Calendar Collection: MARCH will be a little different than the regular calendar collection routine. This month, you will uncover a secret picture on a hundred chart. This month’s Collection will focus on base ten knowledge. For example: “Color the number that is 4 tens and 4 ones black”. You would have the kids color 44 black.COLOR is important! You must use the colors the card tells. Otherwise your picture might not come out correct.

  • Calendar Book: In this book, the narrator will introduce you to a group of children who want to catch a Leprechaun. In their search, they think they found one! But they have to answer a math riddle to get the goal. BUT, they have been tricked! It was not a real leprechaun at all. Will the children actually catch the sneaky Leprechaun, or will he evade them the whole time? Read to find out!
