What educators are saying

This is a great resource to practice and reinforce addition and subtraction with first graders at the start of the year or throughout the year to reinforce skills with students who struggle.
I used this with students that read at a CVC level and are struggling with basic addition. The students seemed to enjoy having story problems that they could read on their own. It seemed to give them a feeling of being independent and successful.

Description

This packet includes CVC word problems addition and subtraction within 10 worksheets and reading comprehension passages with CVC word families in one worksheet. The problem stories are easy to read and fun, and while practicing their reading your students also develop their math skills.

These worksheets are great to use as daily practice. Kids will improve both their math and reading comprehension skills. Each page has plenty of space so the student can show his work and use various strategies to add or subtract.

This unit includes 30 word problems:

  • 15 addition word problems
  • 15 subtraction word problems

Each worksheet has 4 versions:

  • 30 Black / White with CVC family used emphasized under the title
  • 30 Black / White without CVC family used emphasized under the title
  • 30 Color with CVC family used emphasized under the title
  • 30 Color without CVC family used emphasized under the title

( See examples of each version in the preview. )

The student reads the story of the problem and then displays the answer in a multitude of ways:

  • Draw a picture
  • Use ten frames
  • Use a number path
  • Write an equation
  • Write the answer

These worksheets can be used in a math center or as a small group.

No prep: Just print them and give them to your students.

Low-prep: Alternatively you can laminate them, and the student can use mini erasers or small toys to show their work instead of drawing or use dot markers.

As the worksheets are differentiated and easy to solve individually they can be used in:

•Math centers or stations

•Small groups

•Early Finishers

•Morning Activity
