Kick It! Soccer in German Class

This is a how-to guide for teachers who would like to capitalize on students' enthusiasm for sports and natural competitiveness as well as introduce them to an authentic cultural activity: "Fußball" (soccer/football). It explains how to use the free documents (Bundesliga-Tabelle, Sign-up Sheet, Geography) that accompany the activity. This book walks the teacher through how to introduce, set-up, and implement the activity on an ongoing basis.

Following the German soccer league is a year-long activity that gives students repeated random exposure to numbers, particularly the lower numbers but also higher numbers up to 100, colors, and sports terminology. Activities in the book include reading authentic texts, writing about the players, the teams, and their cities, creating stories, and learning about the game. Students will have a language and knowledge base from which to talk to native speakers and others about a widespread cultural practice. Besides, it's just a lot of fun to cheer when your team wins and to rib your friends when their team loses.
