What educators are saying

This is a great resource that gave my students a new perspective on a topic they hear about but don't know a lot about.

Description

The Kentucky Derby gets students interested in horse racing. This PowerPoint activity helps students learn about the history of the sport, types of racing, details about the Triple Crown and past winners. This digital resource includes links to videos about Kentucky Derby traditions. There is additional information about harness racing and steeplechase racing. Students will enjoy reading this informational text and learning about a popular sport that is part of cultural literacy. Includes a printable Kentucky Derby Winners List and a Triple Crown Winners List. A great activity is to have students select a horse to research and write about. Updated through 2023 winner, so it is perfect to use before the May 4th, 2024, race. My middle school students also loved the movie National Velvet, which I showed at the end of the school year.

Use in video conferencing or Zoom for remote learning or share with students in OneDrive or Teams. Upload to Google Drive and save as Google Slides, and it will convert for use in Google Classroom. It is editable and easy to make adjustments. View in Slideshow mode. Please see full preview.
