K-5 General Music Song List and Curriculum Overview Bundle

This bundle combines two year long resources to help you in your lesson and curriculum planning. The K-5 General Music Curriculum Overview provides you with an overview of the concepts included in each grade level and a 9 month/unit breakdown for each grade level. The K-5 Song Lists share lists of songs compiled from 14 different resources for each grade level (sorted alphabetically with important concepts listed below each)! Song Lists:

This list of songs is sorted by grade level and then again alphabetically. At the beginning of each grade level’s song list you will see suggested concepts to learn in that grade level. In each grade level you will find a list of the concepts to teach in that grade sorted by melodic, rhythmic, form, timbre, expression, movement and instruments. Below you will find an alphabetical list of songs. Each song lists the resource or resources where you can find it and page numbers. Below each song I have indicated what concept, theme, or activity you can use that song for. Some songs include my own personal notes. This list will be updated as I learn more songs and have more use for each song.

9 Month Calendars:

This resource expands on the overview of grade level concepts to be learned each year. Each grade level has their own 9-month calendar dedicated to breaking down concepts into their learned order. Concepts are listed in 3 ways: prepare, present, practice (based on Kodaly philosophy of teaching sequence). Prepared concepts mean using songs or activities that involve those concepts, talking about them but not naming them. In the present portion, you are naming and defining the concept. In the practice phase, you are doing just that and practicing naming the concept in different contexts.

Your students may move through rhythmic or melodic concepts more rapidly, or you may have a totally different order of introducing and experiencing concepts, so I've included a bonus file that is editable!
