    Description

Engage young artists in project-based studies inspired by famous artworks by Van Gogh, Klee, Munch, and Kandinsky. Use the done-for-you digital storybooks to look at each artist's style and techniques while introducing students to a brief history of the artist. Then use the digital presentation with step-by-step art project directions to guide students as they create a unique studio art project.

This mini bundle includes four complete units of the Famous Artist series from Kids Art Projects 101.

In the Van Gogh unit students look at the imaginative Starry Night and then paint and collage their own imaginative night scenes, creating a unique mixed-media landscape.

In the Klee unit students learn about line, one of the seven elements of art. Then they create a Klee-inspired continuous line art project.

In the Munch unit students explore Munch's use of expressive feelings and emotions. Then they engage in the process of scrape painting and embellishing with oil pastels to create an emotive self-portrait project inspired by The Scream.

In the Kandinsky unit children examine Kandinsky's use of line, shape and color. Then they listen to music and visualize sound while creating their own abstract art projects and making a visual representation of music using found object stamps and oil pastels.

Inside each unit you'll find a PDF unit guide full of information and tips for teaching a series of art lessons to students in preschool through grade 2.

Each unit is broken down into three or four 40-minute sessions.

For each session there is a guided digital presentation that has already been prepared for you and can be used via Google Slides or PowerPoint. The presentation also introduces and guides you through completion of a studio project and follow-up activity.

Each combined PDF and Google Slides unit includes:

    • An original digital storybook designed to expose students to famous artworks and details about the famous artist
    • Related activities and exercises to familiarize students with the artists' techniques and relevant skills for the studio art project.
    • A step-by-step studio project guide with clear directions, supply lists, and work sample photos
    • Supporting printables
    • Some quick fun facts
    • A digital lesson review
    • An art show prompt with guided questions
    • A printable self-assessment
    • Early finisher coloring page and sing-along suggestions
    • Blank slide templates

MORE ABOUT THE FAMOUS ARTIST SERIES FROM KIDS ART PROJECTS 101

This series is a project-based approach with ties to famous art and artists. The projects are designed for use with young children, and they heavily emphasize play and experimentation, but they also target specific skills, techniques, and understandings.

Inside each structured unit the plans are organized into three to four 40-minute sessions and can be paced out in whatever way works best for your situation. This approach is awesome because it layers art history connections with guided instruction about the elements of art and principles of design. Each unit ultimately results in a completed art project.

These projects were originally developed for use in a public school art room with kindergarten students, but have been adapted into a scripted PowerPoint format so that they can be easily utilized in a variety of settings and with a slightly broader age-range.

    WHY?

Most school-age kids are ready to learn about famous art and artists! Such engagement exposes them to diverse pathways to success and creative expression.

The problem is that figuring out HOW TO DO THIS WELL WITH YOUNG KIDS can be time-consuming and overwhelming. Teacher trainings, even well-organized ones, can leave you feeling ill-equipped for:

    • Selecting kid-friendly masterpieces
    • Translating art/artist facts in a way that feels accessible and engaging to little ears
    • Making time for art history integration, in what is usually a very short time-allotment for hands-on artmaking
    • Assembling supplemental resources (videos, stories, assessments, and early-finisher activities)
    • Aligning famous art with hands-on projects
    • Breaking hands-on projects into manageable and concise kid-friendly chunks

The project packs in our Famous Artist Series do all that work for you! This resource will have you feeling more relaxed, prepared, and purposeful about engaging young kids in art learning!
