Aboriginal Journey Sticks - Outdoor Learning and Storytelling
This complete Aboriginal Journey Stick resource contains everything you need to complete this engaging outdoor learning activity! This is a great way to take learning outside, and is perfect for the reggio emilia or nature based classroom!
The Aboriginal people of Australia often created journey sticks on their adventures, tying natural materials to their sticks in chronological order as they found them. These helped them find their way home, and also retell their adventures to their tribes back home. This activity has students heading out on a nature walk and creating journey sticks of their own; they can then retell their adventures to their classmates by referring back to their sticks.
This outdoor learning activity contains the following resources:
-Full page of information on Journey Sticks, and how they were used by the Aboriginal people of Australia.
-2 pages of teaching information, including step by step instructions, example, material list, and extensions.
-2 templates, with example, to extend the activity - students use template to illustrate and describe their journeys.
