Jojo Rabbit (2019) Guided Viewing (Movie Guide) Worksheet

This is a guided viewing worksheet for Taika Waititi's 2019 film Jojo Rabbit. It is designed to keep the students engaged and focused as they watch this humerous, heart-felt, and educational film. The assignment is broken up into four separate parts. Each part is separated by page so that it may be easily added or removed to fit the time constraints of your classroom. The segments included are as follows:

Section 1: "Pre-Viewing Questions"

-This section is designed to engage the students prior to beginning the film and provide them with the proper historical context for the events in the film. It is broken down into a total of fifteen questions and sub-questions. Students will be tasked with researching World War II to create the historical timeline for which the film takes place. They will also become familiar with the Deutsches Jungvolk and the role that they played in Nazi Germany.

Section 2: "Character Key"

-In this segment, students match the names of each character with a small thumbnail image of them. The purpose is to give the students a proper key for use in the next two sections as they watch the film and complete their essay.

Section 3: "Guided Viewing"

-This section is the bulk of the assignment. It consists of twenty-eight short answer questions that follow the plot and events of the film. Questions occur every few minutes and are detailed enough so as to require attentive viewing on the part of the students.

Section 4: "Essay"

-This section tasks the students to choose one of three essay prompts wherein the students will use examples from the film to analyze and interpret the effects and characteristics of both Nazi propaganda and propaganda in general.

Lastly a detailed key is included for all sections except the essay portion.
