Description

Need a fun way to engage and assess what your students hear as you study about (and play) musical examples by the composer, John Williams? Use these listening glyphs with John Williams on them to assess what they hear. Unfamiliar with listening glyphs? This free resource will help explain how to use glyphs to assess what your students hear.

This packet comes with eight song titles for you to choose from (see preview) and many come with more than one version. Students are asked to recognize and identify: families (string, brass, woodwind and percussion), specific instruments in the songs (such as trumpets, harp, celeste, contrabassoon, French horns, violins, synthesizer, etc,), as well as dynamic and tempo changes and dissonance vs consonance.

Make these glyphs part of a listening station, homework, or as a whole class activity. One song title could be used in conjunction with President's Day (for Abraham Lincoln) and one could be used for other American patriotic holidays. Musical recordings are not included. Glyphs for the following songs are included: "Main Title" from Home Alone, "The People's House" from Lincoln, "Wild Signals” from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, “Overture” from The Cowboys, “Prologue” from

Harry Potter, “Prologue” from Hook, Liberty Fanfare, Olympic Fanfare, and “Planet Krypton” from Superman.

John Williams is a fabulous composer to learn about during any time of the year and remember his birthday is in February... ❤
