What educators are saying

I teach seniors, so this last semester I want to do activities that are meaningful to them after graduation. We will be doing an entire job search/interview project and this packet is extremely helpful and so professionally done!

Description

This folder contains everything needed for a comprehensive job interview unit. The unit includes 10 files:

-Job vs. career PowerPoint: this 13-slide PowerPoint introduces the idea of a job versus a career and discusses some of the factors that should be considered in choosing a career. It then talks about resumes and cover letters and the function and form of each.

-PowerPoint notes: fill-in-the-blank notes to correspond with the job vs. career presentation.

-Future career worksheet: an activity that asks students to research their chosen career and answer questions about training, salary, drawbacks, etc.

-Job interview PowerPoint: my best-selling product, this 14-slide PowerPoint contains everything a student needs to know about job interviews. From attire and interview preparation to interview etiquette and common questions to follow-up procedures, the presentation pretty much covers it all.

-PowerPoint notes: a fill-in-the-blank notes page to accompany the PowerPoint

-PowerPoint notes (large): I have a visually impaired student, so I threw in the large version of the notes I created for her.

-Generic job application: a standard job application for students to practice with.

-Resume/cover letter/mock interview project: instructions for the test project I assign to accompany this unit. The file includes instructions for the cover letter and resume- which we complete in class- and the essay, which is assigned to students as homework. The culmination of the unit is a mock interview conducted by local business people, so there's a rubric for those interviewers to use as well as a rubric for grading the resume, cover letter, and essay.

-Mock interview questions: I provide a list of questions for the interviewers to select from, most of which are taken from the PowerPoint and have been practiced in class.

This until typically takes 6 hours of class time. We have 1.5 hour periods, so:

-Day 1: we do the job vs. career PowerPoint and notes, I show students my own resume as a sample, and then they complete the future career worksheet in class.

-Day 2: we do the job interview PowerPoint and notes and students practice interview questions in pairs, then we begin work on resumes and cover letters.

-Day 3: devoted entirely to completing resumes and cover letters.

-Day 4: mock interviews, so I assign an easy activity that students complete individually as they're called from the room one-by-one for their interviews.

All of the files in this unit are either Word or PowerPoint, so they can be edited and changed in any way you want.
