Description
JavaScript Variable - A Hands-On Activity - Updated December 2021
This programming activity gives the learner actual experience working with JavaScript code.
A starting file is included with the lesson allowing the student to immediately focus on the code concepts without having to build a web page from scratch. The final source code is included.
Variables are one of the key elements used in programming. They are short-term memory for an app.
This activity will have the student:
- Creating several different types of variables
- Displaying the contents of each variable on a web page.
- Exploring overloading
- Using .toFixed( ) to output a specific number of decimal points
- Using boolean variables to make if/else decisions
create
Assessment Suggestion:
Have each student submit a copy of their code using their own name and creating new variables for each of the four types.
The activity has the student add .toFixed( ) using an integer to experiment with the results. This is not in the finished source code file so this additional code can be verified with each submission to make sure the student did the work.
