Description

Count the Room + Count On – JANUARY Math - Ten Frames and Number Cards 1 - 10

Included in this packet:

★ Count the Room January-themed picture cards with ten frames and children depicting the numbers 1-10. The theme includes: “Happy New Year!” and Martin Luther King, Jr. For years in which Chinese New Year occurs in January, Chinese New Year-themed cards are also included.

3 recording sheets: 1. “Count the Room” 2.“Count the Room and Count On”-- add one more to the number 3.“Count the Room and Add 10”-- add ten more to the number.

"I Can" student direction posters for each recording sheet.

Answer keys for easy correcting and/or for students to self-check their work.

Star number cards 1-20 and the <, >, and = signs.

Count the Room is an interactive math activity in which children move around the room looking for the picture cards and then counting the dots or objects in the corresponding ten frames. Students record the numbers on their recording sheet.

To differentiate, 2 additional recording sheets are included: after the children record their answers, they count on, or add “one more” to the number, OR they add “ten more” to the number. “I can” posters with student directions are included for each recording sheet.

This activity reinforces counting and cardinality skills, including subitizing skills, and numeral writing.

There are two picture/ten frame cards on each 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper; when printed, each card will measure 5.25” x 8”.

Simply print the color cards, mount them on construction paper and laminate for durability if desired, and this activity is ready to go!

Additional ideas for using the picture cards include:

★ Matching the ten frame picture cards to the star numeral cards.

★ Displaying the cards in the classroom to reinforce students’ number sense/numeracy understanding.

★ Using the ten frames as a teaching tool when teaching about each number.

★ Sequencing activity: students put the ten frame cards in the correct number sequence.

★ Using them as flashcards to practice subitizing skills.

★ Using the included star numeral cards for number recognition, counting, comparing, and sequencing. If two sets are printed, they may be used for activities such as memory games, in which children turn over the cards and then try to find the matching pairs.
