Jamestown VA DBQ combined with Lucy Calkins Units of Study Boxes & Bullets!!!!
- Google Docs™
Description
I worked so hard to connect the Lucy Calkins Units of Study boxes and bullets technique with an incredible DBQ (Document Based Question) around the fact that so many colonists died at Jamestown, VA. I am very excited to share it with you. This is the a perfect 3-5 week long cross-curricular social studies and writing unit to conduct with 4th graders studying Virginia History.
I rewrote the original DBQ essay to align it with VA SOLS, as well as the questions about each document. The documents used in this DBQ are cited.
The DBQ effortlessly guides students through completing a 5 paragraph essay while learning all about early Jamestown. The packet guides students through it all!
This packet will walk your students through History Alive techniques (I think, I see, I wonder), the location of Jamestown, essay analyzation, Jamestown vocabulary, conducting a 5-finger retell, "pre-boxing"/brainstorming for an essay, revisiting our brainstorm after being presented with new information, learning about Jamestown's environment, droughts, colonial jobs, poor relations with the Powhatan, gathering main idea, developing a thesis, finding reasons and supporting them with evidence, creating an introduction paragraph with a hook and background info, and creating a conclusion paragraph by restating your thesis.
Truly, I am so proud of this. I know you WILL LOVE IT.
THIS IS A GOOGLE DOCUMENT. YOU WILL RECEIVE A COPY OF THE GOOGLE DOCUMENT. IT IS NOT FOR WORD. IT IS NOT A PDF.
