What educators are saying

Students had a lot of fun with this. Some thought the scenarios were far fetched, but I assured them stranger things can, and do happen. Very engaging and fun.

Description

JOB INTERVIEW "How NOT to Interview for a Job!" -- Video Activity - is a hilarious interview video presentation that will captivate your students and will solicit an immediate response. On this zip file you will find two different options for having their students record on a worksheet their responses to what they saw onscreen. WORKSHEETS: One is for the students to record their responses on a computer (or perhaps on their phones) and the other is for the teacher who needs to provide their students with an actual handout for writing their responses down (pen or pencil) on paper. Once the students have watched this 10 1/2-minute video (MP4 format - make sure your computer will run MP4 videos) which is in this zip file package, ask them to quickly list all of the "errors" made by the interviewee on the worksheet: her oral responses including slang, body language, actions, the attire she wears, etc. It is always fun to engage students in a very active discussion about what they thought about the interviewer and this potential employee. EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR IMPLEMENTATION IS HERE ON THIS ZIP FILE!

A teacher (the interviewee) and an H.R. Specialist (the interviewer) actually play these two roles in the video and do so with a great deal of humor. Will she get the job? The body language of the interviewee is a "scream" -- she does EVERYTHING wrong and this video is guaranteed to generate a lively discussion. Please understand that this video was filmed by amateurs and was not created by professional photographers. We appreciate the fact that teachers and students love the message behind this production and it definitely "drives the points home" in what NOT to do during an interview.

The questions that are included in the second part of this activity are what we call the "Dirty Dozen Interview Questions." These questions have been prepared by a Human Resources professional, and they will be very helpful to your students to consider before they engage in any mock or "real world" interview. This part of the activity can generate not only a class discussion but also allows for the teacher to have students complete a role-play situation as well. This is a fun and enjoyable activity for ALL students!!!! This video has no captions for deaf students - sorry!
