Description

This fun-to-read fiction book companion contains guided reading comprehension work that is, also, usable in reading workshops, rotations, or small groups. Plus, there are appropriate literacy skills to go along with Annie Barrows' fluency-leveled novel study, Ivy and Bean.

In this book study there are comprehension questions over each chapter, vocabulary words and teacher-prompts to interact with them, skill work on alphabetizing, spelling work, cause and effect, suffix work, homonyms, and ideas for open-ended end-of-book tasks included.

This is a very low prep unit and always a hit with chapter book readers. The reading level for the text is geared for second and third grade readers. But, struggling fourth grade students can be successful, as could students of any age or need within this reading range.

Here is what's included:

⭐ Comprehension questions for each chapter (some are combined)
⭐ Vocabulary lists and teacher-prompts to interact with vocabulary
⭐ Alphabetizing work to third letter
⭐ Suffix small group activity and follow-up worksheet
⭐ Work on homonyms

⭐ Work on spelling--unscramble words and find the correctly/incorrectly
spelled word

⭐ Review work on hard and soft G & C

⭐ A characterization organizer

⭐ Work on cause and effect based on text events

⭐ Oral reading prompts

⭐ A writing prompt for a spell or potion

⭐ Work on how to write a summary

⭐ Sorting of parts of speech--Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, and Adverbs
⭐ Open-ended end-of-book projects for culminating
⭐ Answer keys for skill work pages
