Description
This is one of the most popular children’s poems with a twist! This rendition has a teeny tiny ant ( say in soft voice) and a big fat gorilla ( shouting and large movements). Sequencing, Following Directions and a song all with the same theme.
♥ Sing the Song : For this song card, I have made a sequence or story card for the different verses. While you are singing the songs do the activities that are associated with the particular lyric to make this a dramatic play.
♥ Sequence the Song: This is a great song to teach sequencing. I have included sequence board ( First, Then, Last). I included a copy of each of the verses that you can cut out and place on the sequence board.
♥ Following Directions: I have included a water spout cut out and a card with a spider, ant and gorilla as well as sun, rain and water. You can use these combined with some concept cards of up, down, above, below, loud, quiet, top and bottom.
Easy melody for children to learn
The repeating lyric helps students who are either English Language Learners or Language Learning Disabled as there is less language complexity to learn these lines allowing them to join in quickly.
The difference between the animals is exaggerated and help to reinforce size, voice volume, and movement.
It is a great deal of fun!

The itsy bitsy spider (Fingers pretend to climb in front of you.)
Went up the water spout. Down came the rain (Wiggle fingers down.)
And washed the spider out. (Cross arms.)
Out came the sun (Make circle above head.)
And dried up all the rain. And the itsy bitsy spider
(Take fingers and climb up in front of you.)
Went up the spout again.
The teeny tiny ant… (Sing in a quiet voice and make very small motions with your fingers.)
The big, fat gorilla… (Sing this version in a loud voice and make large, exaggerated movements.)
