What educators are saying
I used this December before break to introduce storytelling and narrative structure. It was also a great opportunity to show a classic film -- not one of my students had ever seen it!
Description
The following 7-page document is a study guide movie packet to guide a viewer's analysis of the 1946 film "It's a Wonderful Life" directed by Frank Capra. The study guide can be used for study in an English or film studies class. The first page provides a cast and crew list and a background and introduction to the film. The second page provides a notes page for viewers to write their notes. The third page is a mini grammar/writing lesson on parallelism or parallel structure with sentences related to the film. The fourth and fifth pages provide comprehension questions that actively challenge viewers to analyze the work's story and style. The sixth page provides discussion questions on the work's characterization, conflict, reader response, and themes. The seventh page is a genre study on fantasies, asking viewers to identify what characteristics of fantasies are employed in the film.
A multiple choice quiz that can be used as a summative assessment on the film is available as a separate purchase by clicking here.
