Iroquois Folk Tales
- PDF
Description
Native Americans are great story tellers and each of these 33 Iroquois folk tales is an ideal 2-3 pages in length...perfect to use as a class read-aloud or as authentic text in guided reading groups.
Additionally, these Iroquois folk tales are rich in figurative language such as similes, metaphors and personification. Several are origin stories (or pourquois tales) which tell how or why things came to be.
These Iroquois folk tales were originally published in 1917 by a white woman named Mabel Powers. She spent so much time with the Iroquois Indians listening to their stories and writing them down, that they gave her an Iroquois Indian name and made her an honorary member of the Iroquois people.
These authentic Iroquois folk tales have been edited and reformatted to 8 1/2" x 11" size and changed to a cleaner, larger font to make them easier for students to read and teachers to copy for use as authentic historical text in guided reading groups.
If you are teaching a unit about Native Americans, this is a must-have collection of Iroquois folk tales.
Enjoy reading these authentic Native American folk tales!
