Introduction to Passé Composé with Avoir & Regular Verbs

Ah, the early days of passé composé...when kids think it's easy and don't pay attention and then wind up not building the critical base they need to succeed once we add more tricks to the past tense! This packet and set of PowerPoint notes is my answer to this problem we've all dealt with.

This set includes two major sections: an inductive and immersive intro to the past tense designed to get kids using it holistically right away as well as a more traditional grammar section with notes and activities. Once you open up the Word Document you'll get with your download, just copy the first five pages into a packet, hand it out to your students, and you're good to go! No major prep for you!

In the inductive intro you'll get:
1) A cute story of my dog Winnie's weekend written in the passé composé (there are some être verbs mixed in, but it won't throw kids off) designed to be the students' very first encounter with the passé composé.
2) A simple reading comprehension activity using pictures of the adorable Winnie the Wonder Dog.
3) A super-scaffolded speaking activity to get students using the past tense right away.
4) A similarly scaffolded writing activity for students to describe their own weekend using clear models.

In the more traditional grammar approach section you get:
11 activities that have students slowly progressing to greater and greater levels of independence in forming the past tense.
2 sections for notes that go with the accompanying PowerPoint presentation

PLEASE NOTE: This packet and the notes that go with it are ONLY focusing on passé composé using AVOIR and REGULAR PAST PARTICIPLES. I am currently working on similar products for irregular past participles and être verbs!
