So, you're teaching 3D printing... Now what? These intro to 3D printing activities will help you start your 3D printing unit strong by teaching the basic 3D printer parts and concepts. Your students will explore misconceptions, learn about the history of 3D printers, and identify common printer parts and functions through a class discussion, a webquest, and a puzzle activity.

First, you’ll explore your students' prior knowledge and misconceptions about 3D printers with engaging discussion prompts, such as “3D printers can make anything,” and “3D printing is environmentally friendly.” Then your students will conduct research about the history of 3D printing and basic 3D printer parts and their functions in a guided webquest activity. They’ll use embedded links to high-quality websites to gather information and record it on their webquest worksheet. Finally, your students will practice the new vocabulary and match key terms with their functions in an engaging puzzle activity.
