    Kick-start your Television or Video Production class with these 4 simple, engaging projects to teach the basics of video composition, angles, nat sound, simple visual storytelling AND get to know your "crew"!

    "Meet Your Crew" Short Film Complete Unit Plan: (Student Project Guide + Presentation for Instructor)

    Take your icebreaker activities to an entirely new level with this hands-on introductory video project! You will partner students up to produce a :30 short film about each other, following a simple script template and shot list.

    If you're a video production teacher, you can equip students with class camera gear and editing software to complete the project. BUT, no fear if you teach a different subject area - just grab an iPad, smartphone or similar device, a free editing app and you're ready to create!

    The editable, detailed lesson plan will guide you through the unit and the step-by-step project guide will keep students on task. A visual instructor's presentation will introduce students to shot types, angles, video composition and simple film terms.

    This project could be used by students as young as middle school and all the way up to college age. For high school students, it typically takes about 3 days to complete.

    If students do not have access to video cameras/editing software, this project works seamlessly with cell phones, iPads, Chromebooks and free editing apps.

    The project typically takes 2 class periods for middle/high school students to complete: 1 day for planning/filming and 1 day for editing/exporting. The project guide is presented in a flexible way for students to work at their own pace or to follow your deadline.

    Sound Scavenger Hunt:
    This Sound Scavenger Hunt is a hands-on way to teach students to listen to the world around them with intentionality. They will record 15 sounds from a Sound List of 21 sounds to complete through the scavenger hunt.

    The activity will conclude with playing back captured sounds for the class to guess what they are hearing.

    If students do not have access to video cameras with a built-in microphone, this project works seamlessly with cell phones, iPads or similar devices.
