Description

This lesson includes an introduction to sustainability, ecological footprints, and resources to give students an overview of the concepts as an Earth Day activity, or before a more in-depth unit on ecology. Your students will love the organized digital notes that they'll utilize, as well as the bright and image-filled lecture slides you'll use to guide instruction. I teach this lesson as part of a 3-day microunit with my 11th grade environmental science class before we dive into our huge ecology and evolution unit, and it's a GREAT way to preview material and get students thinking about their relationship with the environment.

Not only does this lesson work as a great intro to topics in your ecology unit, but it's an excellent standalone for any teacher who wants to shine a light on sustainability and ecological footprints for Earth Day, or in social studies, geography, economics, or history!

NO PREP

Great for Google Classroom™/Schoology/your favorite Google-compatible LMS!

This is a great option for virtual learning like Zoom™ and Google Meet™ - students have their own guided notes to complete, and you have your lecture slides to guide the lesson, and check answers.

Ways to implement this resource:

Whole Group Instruction - Use the lecture slides to guide whole group instruction while students complete their guided notes. I teach this lesson in one 50 minute class period, but you can certainly condense for a shorter timeframe.

Independent or pair work

Option 1: Post the PDF version of the lecture slides, and students can use it as a resource while they work through their guided notes.

Option 2: Give students their guided notes, and let them flex their research skills to fill them in. Use the lecture slides to check answers after completing
