Intro to AFRICAN CULTURE thru MUSIC-traditional & contemporary DISTANCE LEARNING

UPDATED with new music (2020) and the latest international hit single from SouthAfrica.

My students always enjoy this lesson.  What teen/pre-teen doesn’t love music?! It is a great way to expose your students to different cultures! Through my studies and travels abroad I learned to love music from my African friends, some of who were musicians themselves. In addition, I have extensively researched the internet to find the best music and music videos for middle/high school students. In the music videos, students not only hear the music but also see images of these different African countries. I hope you enjoy this as much as my students and I do!

Included is access to two slide presentations. The first slide presentation introduces you to four traditional instruments of Africa. The second presentation moves on to contemporary music with six music videos from a number of different African nations (Senegal, Morocco, South Africa and more). Also included are teacher instructions and two short questionnaires/exit tickets and a travel journal. These questionnaires can be entered into Google Forms very easily for distance learning also.

Periodically, I plan to update these slide presentations to keep it current. Whenever I update the slides you will automatically receive that also.
