Description

One of my objectives when teaching The Diary of Anne Frank is CCSS RL 8.3: getting my students to understand how the dialogue of the play is essential to not only propelling the plot, but showcasing the characters.

I use this powerpoint before I begin teaching the play to help the students start thinking about dialogue as a literary technique.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This PowerPoint includes:

Slide 1: Title with visible objective
Slide 2: Anticipation Guide
Slides 3-5: Photos of the Secret Annex (setting)
Slides 6 -10: Direct instruction including definition of dialogue, conflict, characterization, dynamic/static character
Slide 11: Formative opportunity #1 (students write a dialogue)
Slide 12-14: Formative opportunity #2 (3 question quick check)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Here is a great culminating activity, building on this CCSS RL 8.3 and adding 8.7:Comparing Multiple Versions of The Diary of Anne Frank and you may also be interested in: The Diary of Anne Frank - PARCC-based Assessment***
