Description

Are you looking for a back to school activity to get your middle school students talking to one another in those first few days of school? How about a biography writing activity that will help to build a community sense in your classroom? Look no further than this collaborative back to school writing activity that allows students to generate questions, conduct a formal interview, and organize the information they have learned about their classmate to write a multi-paragraph biography.

This back to school activity is also a great way to get a baseline diagnostic of the writing strengths/weaknesses of your students. In addition to including teacher models and editable reference sheets, this product also includes a Back to School Choice Board Activity for early finishers that includes four tasks that lets your students tell you a bit more about themselves.

What's Included:

• Interview with a Classmate Writing Resources: This sheet contains the tasks for each part of the writing activity, assignment information, RAFT organizer, and section to self-generate interview questions. A writer’s notebook slide has been included for students to record their interview information.

• Four Square Organizer: Two Organizers have been included to help students to organize their letters as well as a blank organization slide that allows students to create their own organizer.

• Teacher Models: Teacher Samples have been included for the Writing Expert Pre-Writing Activity, Four Square Organizer, and Letter. Letter samples include a STRONG, MEDIUM, and WEAK sample for student to use to self-assess their letter.

• Biography Reference Sheet: This sheet includes predetermined criteria is included for teachers to give as a guide for students, a writing checklist for each task as well as tools to help students strengthen their writing. A black template for teachers to include their own criteria and writing checklist is included.

• Early Finisher Activity: A Back to School Choice Board Activity has been included for students to complete if they finish any of the tasks early. The choice board includes FOUR different tasks-Goal Setting Banner, Social Media Template, All About Me: Letter to My Teacher, and All About Me Poster. Student samples have been included for each task.
