This Decades Project is interdisciplinary, including history, music, fads, economics, politics, and science. Students will research each decade and fill in the appropriate template, either through Google Classroom (Google Slides version) or on paper. It is helpful to assign students to decades in groups or two to three so they can divide up the work easily.

Included in this project are :
➢ List of links to the editable Google Slides versions. Be sure to save copies to your Google Drive then assign them to students through classroom. You can either post each decade in your class stream and have students work on their own decade or give it as an assignment for each group, sending the particular decade document to just the students in a particular group (i.e. the 1920’s group would only get assigned the 1920’s document.) This makes keeping track of students in each group easier for you. **Make sure students do not delete any slides from their projects (especially the list of presidents) or the interactive links will stop working! If students delete a text box by accident, they can just add a new box and choose their font.
➢ Color and black and white pdf versions of the template are included for students to complete and return to you if you choose. These are great if students want to work on the project at home and don’t have access to the Internet!
➢ Black and white answer keys for the teacher are included with examples of answers (these are not ALL the possible answers, just ones to give the teacher some help!)
➢ Charts that can be shared with the students (or just for the teacher’s use) that may save some time. These include: Helpful Websites for the Decades Project (with interactive links that are active as of 2018) Decades top 10 Musicians, Decades top 10 Songs, Historical Fast Facts per the U.S. Census Bureau and What did things Cost?
Suggestions:
• Students should present their research through use of a computer/projector using the Google Slides. Slides have interactive links that will help in the presentation. If using paper version, students could make posters or share copies of their documents for the rest of the class to see.
• Students could add to their presentations by:
• Make a diorama of something from the decade
• Dress up in appropriate fashion from the decade
• Present their decade as one of the influential people, Presidents or First Ladies from that decade.
• Sing or play a song from the decade
• Demonstrate or teach the class a dance from the decade
• Make a theme park based on the decade with the names of the rides, souvenirs, entertainers, uniforms or food items representative of the decades music or fads.
Hopefully, your students will find the process of learning about the past 100 years fun and exciting!
