Old MacDonald Looking for a great way to encourage the beginner speaker? This is one of the most popular children’s songs that is perfect as the song has vowel sounds featured as well as consonant-vowel sounds (animal sounds). It is also great for the beginner reader as they can point to each picture/word as they sing the song. As the child can make choices of the animals being sung it gives them some independence.
As I worked with children I noticed that some of the children were just swatting at the pictures or choosing the picture closest to them. I made the adapted book so that I could tell if they were paying attention to the picture they were selecting. The lyric in the book is simplified to decrease the visual information on the page for the student.
Why use this song or product?
Easy melody for children to learn
The repeating chorus helps students who are either English Language Learners or Language Learning Disabled as there is less language complexity to learn these lines allowing them to join in quickly.
The animal sounds are very easy for a child to make as the majority are consonant-vowel combinations.
Animals are a favorite topic
Choice-making in this song is great as there is no need for one animal to be sung before another.
