Description

Your students are technologically advanced...why not use it to their advantage in the classroom?

Students will explore the meanings of place value, fractions and multiplication after completing these web-based activities. Students will have more confidence working with numbers and calculating answers when they have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the relationship between numbers and the math concepts they represent.

Just equip them with a chrome book, laptop or pc and the student response sheets and your students will be on the path to discovery in a fun and challenging way. These unique lessons use PREZI to introduce place value, fractions and multiplication concepts and then challenges students to apply the concepts in order to demonstrate understanding and degree of mastery.

These activities can be used as a pre-assessment prior to teaching a unit on place value, fractions or multiplication, a center activity or a diagnostic after teaching to help instructors gauge the levels of understanding their students have.

The animations and movement within a PREZI presentation keeps students engaged in learning.

Each activity includes:

- Access to the PREZI presentation on the internet

- A students recording sheet

- An answer key for instructors

- Vocabulary cards (for use on anchor charts) to help students learn and/or review important multiplication terminology

The activity and all questions are aligned with the Common core. Standards specifically addressed are: 3.OA.A.1, 3.OA.A.3, 3.OA.D.9, 3.NBT.A.1, 3.NBT.A.2, 3.NF.A.1, 3.NF.A.2, 2.G.A.3

Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be decomposed into two equal addends.
