What educators are saying

Great resource for students to interact with. I added students visiting the places on google earth to get a better view of the castles.
Used this with my high school History of Medieval Europe class as a fun activity and they really enjoyed it. They loved the interactive power point and found it easy to maneuver. Thanks for the great resource.

Description

This resource is a Google Form and Doc linked to an interactive image of a medieval castle.

Castles were made for defense. Behind their strong, thick stone walls, many people could hold out for long periods. A drawbridge over the castle moat—a ditch filled with water—could be raised in case of attack. One way to capture a castle was by siege: The enemy would surround the castle and wait until the defenders’ food ran out and they had to surrender. But soldiers could also attack by going over, through, or under the castle’s defenses.

Students will analyze the interactive image. Students can also use the Youtube link to explore the secrets of a medieval castle. Then complete the 10 reading comprehension questions on the form. Next, students will answer the 2 short answer questions on the doc. This activity has worked very well in pairs. This is an excellent enrichment activity.

Students will learn about:

  • Strategies of the Attackers
  • Strategies of the Defenders
  • Battering Ram
  • Moats
  • Catapults
  • Barbicans
  • Turrets, Towers, and Lookout Points
  • Siege Tower
  • Hooks and Ladders

This product is editable and the questions and answer options have been shuffled.
