Substance use and abuse is a complex and often controversial topic that affects people of all ages and backgrounds. It can have serious consequences for individuals, families, and communities, including physical and mental health problems, legal issues, and social or economic challenges.
Teenagers are particularly vulnerable to the effects of substance abuse because their brains are still developing, and the use of substances can have a a big impact on their permanent cognitive, emotional, and behavioural development. The use or abuse of substances can also lead to a variety of negative non-physical consequences for teenagers, including academic problems, social isolation, and legal issues.
In this project, students are given a general overview of how inquiry projects work, and are then set loose to dive into an authentic research process. At the end, they are given the option of presenting in one of four different modes: A presentation, a podcast, a documentary film, or an essay.
