Informational Text Analysis Task Cards | Guided Reading for any Non Fiction Text
- PDF
Description
Are you looking for a way to help you students dig in to a non-fiction text in a way that will promote long term comprehension? You've come to the right place.
I use these cards in a variety of ways in my classroom and have witnessed them to be effective time and time again. Once while using these cards, I had a student say "I don't understand the point. Why do Have to write down the numbers? The only numbers I see are dates."
I responded, "Great! Document those dates on your graphic organizer! Why do you think the author included those dates?"
His response assured me that these are as effective as I had witnessed before----
"ehh. The dates are in chronological order. The author probably thought we needed to understand the timeline and how different things were back then."
At this point, I just smiled back at him because he just figured out why these are important. This was proof that he now understands how the setting impacted the events that were outlined in the text and identified the text structure.
These cards are based on the Reading Sign Post strategy! However, students do not have to know this strategy in order for these cards to be effective.
