Description

This lesson works great with Florida Civics Standard SS.7.C.2.10 and SS.7.C.2.11.

This all inclusive PowerPoint guides students to investigate the following questions.
1. How does media impact government?
- Serves as watchdog to alert citizens of government wrongdoing
- Might be biased for or against a politician, party, or idea
- Uses symbolism to connect with citizens
- Uses propaganda to convince voters

2.How do interest groups impact government?
- Gives individual citizens a louder voice when they are represented by a voice
- Big influence to get politicians to do what they want
- Lots of money given to PACs and Super PACs

This PowerPoint is fast moving and keeps kids interested! They LOVE analyzing the political cartoons and I LOVE when I see the that lightbulb moment!

It includes:
- definitions for student notes (media, bias, symbolism, propaganda, interest group, lobbyist, PAC and Super PAC)
- LOTS of primary source visual examples for students to analyze (political cartoons, historical campaign slogans, campaign propaganda print ads, headlines and more!)
- multiple choice questions that mimic the questions on the Florida Civics EOC
- opportunities for student discussions a chance to support their own opinion
